Dr. Sara Tookey is an experienced psychologist and psychotherapist and is the founder and director of True North Psychology. With 17 years of experience in mental health, she has worked in various sectors including the National Health Service, charities, and private sectors in the UK, USA, and India.

Sara takes a compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy to empower clients towards personal and relational growth, so that they can live a more meaningful and satisfied life. She specialises in integrative therapies and works flexibly across multiple therapeutic approaches to design a bespoke therapeutic package that suits the unique needs of each individual client, couple/relationship and family that she works with. Sara works with people with a wide range of emotional difficulties and experiences, and has particular interest in working with people who have difficulties with physical health and illness (particularly cancer and palliative illness), neurodivergence, challenging experiences on non-ordinary consciousness, gender, sexual and relationship diversities, existential crises, anxiety, and depression, among others.

Along with her private practice, Sara currently works as the Clinical Director and Consultant Psychologist for an online therapy start-up, she provides psychological consultancy to organisations, offers supervision services to clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals, and psychological support on psychedelic clinical research trials.

True North Therapy Practice

True North Psychology (TNP) was founded by Dr. Sara Tookey in 2020 with the aim of providing accessible, inclusive, and evidence-based therapy. After working for more than 12 years in the NHS and private practice, Sara recognized the inequitable nature of private practice services and the growing demand for mental health services in the NHS. TNP operates under a cooperative business model with a focus on providing specialist psychological care to individuals who live in rural or disadvantaged communities where access to specialist services is limited.

The True North Psychology platform was developed to meet the needs of a culturally diverse population from around the globe, providing easily accessible and inclusive services upheld to the highest international standards. We provide compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental psychological therapy, drawing upon the latest research and evidence-based therapy methods to guide our clients and support them to live the lives they want to live.

What clients are saying about us

"I’ve been able to get to a level of depth of understanding of myself that I’ve not been able to with any of my previous therapy, and that’s all due to the skilled and compassionate approach, patience and dedication of my psychologist.  She’s helped me to understand my difficulties and explore my strengths and on many occasions has helped me to turn my difficulties into strengths. I’m forever grateful."
