Compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming care for adults navigating ADHD

True North Psychology is proud to announce the launch of our new Adult ADHD Assessment and Therapy Support Service. This specialised offering provides compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming care for adults seeking clarity about ADHD and support throughout their journey.

Comprehensive, Compassionate Care

Developed by clinical psychologists with lived experience of ADHD, our new service addresses a critical need in adult mental health care. The comprehensive approach includes thorough assessments, detailed post-assessment support, and ongoing therapy designed specifically for adults navigating ADHD.

"As a Clinical Psychologist diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, I understand firsthand the transformative impact of compassionate assessment and support," says Dr. Sara Tookey, Founder and Clinical Director of True North Psychology.
"Our new service has been thoughtfully designed to provide the understanding, validation, and practical guidance I wish had been available on my own journey."

What Sets Our Service Apart

Following extensive consultation with the neurodivergent community, True North Psychology has created an assessment and support process that differs significantly from traditional approaches:

  • Neurodiversity-Affirming: We view ADHD as a difference, recognising both challenges and unique strengths

  • Trauma-Informed: Our approach acknowledges how past experiences may impact current ADHD presentations

  • Designed by ADHDers: Created by professionals with lived experience to ensure authentic understanding

  • Strengths-Based: We identify and celebrate your unique capabilities alongside addressing challenges

  • Comprehensive Support: From initial assessment through ongoing management strategies

The Complete ADHD Support Journey

Our service includes:

  1. Initial screening consultations to understand your needs

  2. Comprehensive ADHD assessments exploring your unique experiences

  3. Detailed post-assessment support with personalised recommendations

  4. ADHD-focused therapy to develop effective management strategies

  5. Support for workplace accommodations and self-advocacy

  6. Flexible scheduling with both online and in-person options

The full assessment typically takes 2 - 3 sessions spread over several weeks, with ADHD-friendly pacing to ensure the most accurate and comfortable experience.

Addressing a Growing Need

With increasing awareness of adult ADHD and long NHS waiting lists, our service provides a timely alternative for those seeking professional assessment and support. True North Psychology's approach acknowledges that many adults with ADHD have developed sophisticated masking and coping strategies and may have received misdiagnoses throughout their lives.

"Many adults with ADHD, particularly women and those from underrepresented groups, have struggled to receive appropriate recognition and support," notes Dr. Tookey.
"We're committed to providing an assessment experience that accurately identifies ADHD while empowering individuals and fostering self-compassion."
